Santuario St. Thomas the Apostle Church 聖多默宗徒堂
Diocese of Hong Kong
The Church of St. Thomas the Apostle is located at the southwest of Tsing Yi Island, which is the fifth largest island in Hong Kong with an area of 10.69 square km and a population of 0.2 million.
With the process of urbanization and influx of new population, the Tsing Yi Church was independent of the parent parish in Tsuen Wan to set up its own parish, the then provisional Church of St. Thomas the Apostle. In 1993, the parish initiated preparation work for the construction of the new church building. Following the foundation laying ceremony on 24 November, 1996, the premises come to operation on 4 July, 1999, bringing new life and new image to the parish.
The sacred relics being placed in the Church of St. Thomas the Apostle is a precious holy gift given by the Italian Bishop Enzio D’Antonio in response to the request made by Rev. Bonalumi Luigi, PIME.
