The foundation stone of St Patrick's was laid on St Patrick's Day 1836. It became the Cathedral Church 150 years later in 1986 when the Diocese of Parramatta was established. Following a major fire in 1996, the present Cathedral is the fourth church on the site and was dedicated in 2003. With an innovative combination of art and architecture, St Patrick's was the first Australian Cathedral of the new millennium and is one of the icons of Parramatta, the city of greater Sydney's rapidly growing second CBD!
