Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception

Grand Falls

Grand Falls-Windsor

The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception is dedicated to Mary, the Mother of Jesus. Inside the Cathedral the present altar, rebuilt from the original 1920 marble altar from Italy, occupies a prominent place in the sanctuary. Also, in the sanctuary, are six small oval windows: three on one side commemorate the Holy Family and three on the opposite side depict St. John, St. Peter, and St. Michael. The Cathedral walls are adorned by the Stations of the Cross as well as by beautiful stained glass windows which depict fourteen of the Joyful, Sorrowful, and Glorious Mysteries of the Rosary. The fifteenth Glorious Mystery, 'The Coronation of Mary', is represented by a marble statue at the back of the Church. There is also another stained glass window showing Mary's apparition to Bernadette of Lourdes, with the words "I am the Immaculate Conception" engraved on it. As well, there is a statue of the Blessed Virgin holding the Christ Child in her arms.
