Contemplating Mercy in Caravaggio’s painting, in the Church of San Luigi dei Francesi, which can be admired this evening during special hours, from 20:00 to 22:00 .
The Jubilee for Catechists is in full swing in Rome today, welcoming catechists present from all over the world. The Jubilee event began yesterday at 18:00 with reflections on“Contemplating Mercy” on the basis of the theme “Miserando atque eligendo” (Showing mercy and choosing) in Caravaggio’s painting "The Call of Saint Matthew" , located in the Contarelli Chapel of the Church of San Luigi dei Francesi. Thousands of pilgrims attended the catecheses, which were presented for different lingustic groups. The Church of San Luigi dei Francesi will remain open from 20:00 to 22:00 to allow the catechists on pilgrimage to contemplate Caravaggio’s painting.
Today, between 9:00 and 14:00, pilgrims can frequent Eucharistic Adoration and the sacrament of reconciliation in the Jubilee Churches (S.Salvatore in Lauro, S. Maria in Vallicella, S. Giovanni Battista dei Fiorentini), and make the Pilgrimage to the Holy Door of Saint Peter’s Basilica, passing through the special display”In the Footsteps of the Saints and Blesseds of Catechesis”.
In the afternoon, the catechesis on mercy will be presented in Italian at 16:00 in the Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls, followed by several testimonies and Evening Prayer (Vespers) at 18:00.
The Jubilee for Catechists will reach its culmination tomorrow at 10:30 with the Celebration of the Eucharist by Pope Francis in Saint Peter’s Square.
